Munich Startup:<\/em> What does Filu do? What problem do you solve? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lena Naderer, Co-founder and CVO Filu:<\/em> We are a next-gen and true Feel-Good Veterinary Practice<\/a>where employees feel just as comfortable as animals and pet owners. The well-being of pets, pet owners, and our veterinarians is equally important to us. Many veterinarians and veterinary assistants are moving into other professions because the working conditions aren't ideal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, the number of veterinary practices is stagnating or declining, despite the increasing number of pets. For years, the number of practices has remained at around 10,000. The situation is even worse for veterinary clinics. Here, the number halved from 297 (2009) to around 150 (2022). At the same time, the number of pets in Germany is growing. Their number rose from 22.6 million (2009) to 34.4 million (2022), an increase of over 50 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Filu, we want to address this deficit, improve and modernize veterinary care and working conditions for veterinarians. Filu offers more creative opportunities, more interaction, better compatibility with family life, regular working hours, and, above all, a focus on physical and mental well-being, among other things. We want to make veterinary medicine a dream job again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wellness practices with all-round digital service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> But that's been around for a long time!  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lena Naderer:<\/em> Unfortunately not. Of course, there are veterinary practices, but our approach and idea are new, which is why we differ from conventional practices. A veterinary practice like Filu is completely different. However, there are role models in the USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We differentiate ourselves by offering our employees attractive and, above all, healthy working conditions. We also aim to establish our modern, feel-good practices in all major cities across Germany and perhaps even beyond. Innovative not only are the feel-good atmosphere, the way we interact with each other, and the modern medical equipment \u2013 we also offer digital services and make everyday practice operations seamless and digital. This offers advantages for our animal patients and their owners and reduces the workload for our employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> What is your founding story?  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lena Naderer: <\/em>My co-founder Christian Uwe K\u00f6hler (CEO) and I are from Munich, and Justus Richard Buchen (COO) is originally from Berlin. Justus and Christian have been friends since university. I met them both by chance and immediately noticed that we share the same vision. Together we can make a difference. We are united by our love of animals and our mission to think differently and in new ways for a positive impact.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We've joined forces to build the leading animal health platform. Our mission is to empower veterinary practices with technology to increase efficiency while maintaining quality of care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Above all, we want to improve working conditions. The latter is particularly important to me personally. I'm a veterinarian myself and turned this childhood dream into my career. But then I learned that the conditions weren't such that I could imagine working as a veterinarian my entire career, so I switched to the pharmaceutical industry. With Filu, I'm now fulfilling my dream of creating a wellness practice for animals, pet owners, and especially veterinarians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Filu: Rethinking medicine with the joy of animals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> What have been your biggest challenges so far?  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lena Naderer: <\/em>Opening a practice involves a lot of paperwork. Suitable premises must be found, and of course, a lot of medical equipment, such as ultrasound and X-rays, must be purchased. We also place great importance on the pleasant design of the practice rooms. A lot of things have to be right and organized. Alongside this, we run the practice, which we're rethinking and making more digital. That's a challenge. We also place great value on a team with the mindset of wanting to make a difference and reinventing the wheel with us. We call them Filuneers, who rethink medicine with a passion for animals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup: <\/em><\/strong>Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lena Naderer: <\/em>In five years, we'll be the leading platform for animal health in Germany. When people think of modern veterinary medicine, Filu should be the first association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lena Naderer: <\/em>Munich is a fantastic city, and as a tech metropolis, it's well-suited as a startup location. But of course, the conditions for founding a company can still be improved in some areas. For example, by reducing bureaucracy. Our investors have also given us a very positive experience in Munich, as we've been able to make valuable contacts and friendships through their network and at events, which support us in meeting this challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scale across Germany<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> Quick exit or long breath? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lena Naderer: <\/em>We want to grow \u2013 and do so healthily. A comprehensive Practice network <\/a>You can't build something in a year. It's also really fun to see the changes we're making.
