Munich Startup: <\/em>What does Vocalisto do? What problem does it solve?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Birzele, Vocalisto:<\/em> With our mobile rehearsal room<\/a> We enable singers to pursue their passion anytime and anywhere without disturbing others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The problem we're solving is that in Germany alone, over 3 million singers want to practice regularly at home, but due to a lack of adequate soundproofing, they can't do so as flexibly as they'd like. As a result, some get into trouble with neighbors or are concerned about making audible mistakes, and some even stop singing altogether. This situation has been exacerbated by the increased use of home office work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our solution, the mobile rehearsal room, consisting of a sound-absorbing face mask and the associated mobile app, provides privacy and flexibility for singers. The first step is to isolate external sound from surrounding people, but also to protect vocal recordings from external noise. The singer can hear themselves through headphones and even mix and record songs live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> But that's been around for a long time!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Birzele, Vocalisto<\/em>:<\/em> The classic option is a stationary rehearsal space, often rented somewhere. The problem here is the limited availability of such spaces. Often, this is accompanied by the great distance between home and the space, or by other artists with whom one has to share the space. This dependency and the resulting lack of flexibility is often the reason why one wants and needs to practice at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Existing soundproofing solutions for the home require considerable space, sometimes require complex and permanent installation, and are expensive. This is usually not feasible in a city apartment.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

With our solution, we combine sound insulation, integrated recording, and location independence for the first time. This allows you to practice while traveling and right before a performance, and it's also easy to move. Users can even carry our mobile rehearsal room in a backpack or handbag. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> What is your founding story?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Birzele, Vocalisto<\/em>:<\/em> I've been a musician for over 20 years, and as the singer in our band, I had the problem that when I moved to Munich, I no longer had access to our band room for practicing. I even occasionally sat in my car to prepare for studio sessions or performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While searching for a solution for my apartment, I was disappointed by the space requirements and the effort required for installation. At some point, I came up with the idea of making the whole thing significantly smaller and more mobile. After building the first prototypes, I teamed up with a fellow founder in 2021, who is unfortunately no longer with us due to professional reasons. Over many months of development work and customer testing, we were able to validate our hypotheses and develop the basic principle of the mask and app to the point where we can now plan our market launch in the next step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenge of finding co-founders<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> What have been your biggest challenges so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Birzele, Vocalisto<\/em>:<\/em> The initial challenge was the technical challenge of achieving sound insulation in a very confined space in a way that was effective while simultaneously not compromising comfort, sound quality, or breathing. We were able to master this balancing act through numerous iterations and tests with a variety of materials and design principles \u2013 from lab tests to intensive customer testing. Tools like AI design and 3D printing enabled us to quickly implement new ideas. Thanks to extremely constructive feedback, we were ultimately able to find a very useful solution for our customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Financing and finding co-founders naturally pose further challenges. Finding good people who not only have the right skills, but are also at the right moment in their lives to start a company and take the associated risks, is quite challenging. Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Birzele, Vocalisto<\/em>:<\/em> In one year, we want to be present on the market with our mobile rehearsal room and then use even more customer feedback to holistically optimize our solution and our offering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our long-term goal is to become an established brand and platform for both experienced singers and beginners. With our solutions, we want to make an important contribution to making singing accessible to everyone. Regardless of their life situation or perceived talent, everyone should be able to experience progress in singing with joy and ease. We want to enable people to pursue their passion for singing on a long-term basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, new customer groups such as podcast creators or online gamers will also play a role for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup: <\/em><\/strong>How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Birzele, Vocalisto<\/em>:<\/em> As a very active and vibrant location, there are countless networking events and opportunities to exchange ideas with experts and creative minds from startups to established companies. The support landscape in Munich is also a very valuable factor. Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship<\/a> At the Munich University of Applied Sciences, we had our first partner who supported us not only with coaching but also with financial support. As a hardware startup, this was essential for our progress from a very early stage. Industry-specific offers are also worth their weight in gold for market entry, which is why we are super happy to be in the Wavelab<\/a> The incubator at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts is a great honor. Overall, Munich is highly recommended as a startup location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> Quick exit or long breath?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Birzele, Vocalisto<\/em>:<\/em> Currently, both are conceivable. It's important to us to be able to help customers with our offerings in the long term.
