The cities of Munich, Cologne, Berlin, and Hamburg each selected three finalists in a preliminary round, who competed against each other in the final round in Munich on June 22nd. Participants pitched their business ideas to a high-profile panel of experts. The jury selected four regional winners in addition to the national winner. From the Cologne area, the startup Dpv prevailed with its innovative mini-ECG. Fimo Health and its app for tracking chronic diseases won the regional competition for Cologne. UniWearables&#039; cloud patient data systems and IoT hardware impressed the Berlin participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winning startups can look forward to free tickets and a presentation at Slush, Europe&#039;s largest startup event, as well as many other regional prizes. As Startup Champ 2023, Deepeye Medical will receive additional rewards such as personal coaching, pitch training, and participation in Insurlab Germany&#039;s exclusive Topic Day Health. Even before the finals, all finalists had the opportunity to present themselves at the Startup Champs&#039; joint booth at Bits &amp; Pretzels Healthtech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Better vision with Deepeye Medical<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Deepeye Medical has developed a decision-support algorithm for ophthalmologists designed to help prevent blindness from treatable eye diseases. This allows physicians to offer personalized treatment to their patients, for example, those suffering from the widespread age-related macular degeneration (AMD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Manuel Opitz<\/strong>, one of the founders and managing directors of Deepeye Medical, comments on the victory:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&quot;Startup Champs was a complete success for us. It was impressive that Germany&#039;s four biggest startup hotspots gathered in Munich for the days. We already knew some of the faces from the press, and the direct interaction was an added value for us. We are delighted to emerge as the German winner with Deepeye Medical against such strong competition.&quot;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Giving founders a stage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Startup Champs is a pitch competition in which young companies from across Germany can submit their product. The startup hotspots of Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, and Munich have joined forces for this event. Berlin Partner, Hamburg Invest, Cologne Business, Munich Startup, and Werk1 have been organizing Startup Champs since 2020. After the first two competitions were held online due to the coronavirus pandemic, the final in Munich in 2023 will be the second live event, following last year&#039;s event in Hamburg. Each year, the competition focuses on a different topic; in 2023, the focus is on digital health.
