The startup Quantum-Systems, founded in 2015, develops and sells electrically powered drones (UAS) with a special transition mode<\/a>This ensures that the aircraft take off and land vertically and then, after a short transition phase, continue flying like an airplane. To do this, the engines pivot into a flight position. So far, the Munich-based company has focused on customers from sectors such as agriculture and the construction industry. However, they can also be used to monitor infrastructure or wildlife for nature conservation projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ultimately, what the drones capture with their cameras is irrelevant; they are considered dual-use goods that can be used for both civilian and military purposes. Since spring, Quantum Systems has therefore also been selling its technology to Ukraine<\/a>. In the course of Series A round in summer<\/a> The company then announced that it would also focus more on the growing state market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now the drone builders have secured further financing, Media reports<\/a> According to the company, the investment is worth \u20ac17.5 million. The funding comes from US investor Peter Thiel, Berlin-based VC Project A, and Munich-based Sanno Capital. Existing investor Bayern Kapital is also participating again. The capital will be used both for research and development \u2013 with a particular focus on artificial intelligence, autonomy, edge computing, and robotics \u2013 and for expanding sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
