This is primarily due to the assessment of the current business situation, which improved throughout the year. The corresponding indicator rose by 4.5 points to 45.4 balance points at the end of the year, while the indicator for business expectations declined slightly (-4.5 points) to 37.9 balance points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the individual components of the business climate, both the quality and volume of deal flow have reached record levels. Demand for venture capital due to promising <a href=\"\/en\/63013\/startup-start-up-company\/\">Startups<\/a> was thus apparently higher than ever in 2021. The fundraising climate was also never better over the entire year, reaching its highest level in all four quarters. In contrast, the exit climate reached its highest level to date in the second quarter, deteriorated again over the course of the year, and the annual average was only slightly above the previous peak level of 2017\/2018. With regard to exit channels, however, the climate for IPOs in 2021 was outstanding, as reflected in a high number of actual IPOs. By contrast, satisfaction with entry valuations fell to a record low in the second quarter of 2021. However, the annual average was hardly worse than in the pre-coronavirus years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cGiven the investment records we saw in 2021, a continued very strong VC business climate was to be expected at the end of the year,\u201d <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>says <strong>Fritzi K\u00f6hler-Geib<\/strong>, Chief Economist at KfW. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&quot;The fact that the record was maintained marks a fitting end to the year. However, the prospects for the VC market to remain similarly strong in 2022 have dimmed. Investment activity could cool down with the approaching interest rate hikes by central banks. Perhaps the German market will be somewhat less affected by this, as local startups attract strong international interest due to their innovative strength and entrepreneurial talent. However, our dependence on non-European investors for large financing rounds highlights how important it is to continue building and expanding the local VC ecosystem. I therefore very much welcome the fact that the first building blocks of the Future Fund have already begun their operational work.&quot;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Will the VC business climate remain stable in 2022? <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The year 2021 was a record year for the German venture capital market in terms of market sentiment and market figures, according to <strong>Ulrike Hinrichs<\/strong>, Executive Board Member of the BVK. The startup ecosystem and Germany as a whole as a technology and business location have taken a major step forward: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&quot;The strong deal flow assessments demonstrate the enormous demand for venture capital from startups. Fortunately, thanks to the excellent fundraising environment, this demand is also matched by a growing supply of capital. We are optimistic for 2022. The slight decline in the business expectations indicator is a sign of some stabilization, which is rather healthy given the dynamic upswing in sentiment since the beginning of the pandemic.&quot;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The \u201cGerman Venture Capital Barometer\u201d of KfW and the Association of German
