Munich Startup: <\/em>Who are you and what do you do? Please introduce yourselves briefly!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinkin: <\/em>We are Blinkin, a startup in the fields of remote visual support and computer vision. We give companies and their customers a "help button." We are developing a platform for visual collaboration to understand and solve problems faster remotely \u2013 either 1:1 with expert guidance or automated by the Blinkin Visualbot. Whether in industry, to reduce machine downtime or to assess insurance claims, we rely on the effectiveness of images and videos \u2013 seeing is understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are four co-founders: Josef at the Munich headquarters and Harsh, Nitin, and Dhiraj in the Bangalore office. We are all in our early to mid-30s and have been working together since 2018 \u2013 Blinkin has been actively serving customers in the market since 2019. A few years ago, Josef commissioned Harsh's team in India to develop an app for a customer project. The successful project evolved into a friendship and eventually a vision of how tech support could be improved through computer vision and gradually automated through a digital assistant for smartphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technical support \u201cwithin seconds, without app download, without registration\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> What problem does your startup solve?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinkin:<\/em> Problem 1: Millions of people try to communicate on the phone every day about technical issues that are difficult to describe even in their native language, but which an expert would often be able to understand at a glance. We add a visual layer to these 'conversations in the dark' \u2013 within seconds, without an app download, without registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Problem 2: Sharing images and videos between individuals and companies is fraught with obstacles. We create a visual bridge between experts and their clients, allowing even large amounts of data to be transferred in compliance with GDPR regulations with just a few clicks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Problem 3: Technical service is difficult to scale due to its dependence on on-site deployments and expertise. We're building a digital assistant using computer vision that guides people to technical self-help based on the situation via their smartphone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> But that's been around for a long time!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinkin:<\/em> Even in times of seemingly never-ending video conferences, customer inquiries in tech support are still primarily answered by phone and email. Many companies, including insurance companies, have recognized the need for a simple connection for exchanging images and making video calls between their experts and customers and have integrated WhatsApp into their customer communications. And now they face the major challenge of replacing WhatsApp with a GDPR-compliant solution. We want to combine the simplicity of WhatsApp with the security of a phone call and, to a certain extent, the effectiveness of an on-site visit. Our goal is not to replace on-site visits; that would be unrealistic and, from today's perspective, completely uneconomical. Our goal is to replace avoidable deployments and increase the resolution rate with fewer resources and by helping customers help themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinkin prepares first financing round<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> What have been your three biggest challenges so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinkin:<\/em> First, we're bootstrapped, which is a challenge in itself. We also need revenue to cover our extensive research in the field of computer vision. Therefore, we're currently preparing our first round of financing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second, we currently work in a B2B(2C) environment, mostly with large companies. This in itself ties up a lot of resources in the collaboration and sometimes also means long decision-making processes that delay projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Third: Of course, it's not always easy for us to cope with the current COVID-19 situation. Not only are clients' budgets being shifted, but from the very beginning, we as a team had to manage the distance between India and Bavaria, which worked surprisingly well. Currently, however, every team member in both countries is working from home. This simply means that personal interaction is lacking, and we have to consciously work to foster a sense of community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> How are things going?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinkin:<\/em> Very good! We're sometimes amazed by the customers we're working with today and the companies we're in discussions with! We're currently conducting numerous pilot projects with large medium-sized companies and corporations, which we'll transition to the operational phase in 2021. We're already preparing several new pilots for the first quarter, in which we're working with customers from the automotive, household electronics, and hand tools sectors, among others, on the proper implementation of our collaboration platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> How do you rate Munich as a startup location?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinkin:<\/em> Munich is a vibrant environment for startups! We have very good connections to the Werksviertel scene and have our offices there. We receive a lot of support from the various programs and institutions that have been established in Munich, such as Xpreneurs<\/a>, Techfounders<\/a> or the Insurtech Hub in Plant 1<\/a>The networks connected to it have already opened many doors for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> Hidden champion or shooting star?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blinkin:<\/em> We're certainly not a hidden champion yet\u2014we're just at the beginning of our journey! We value SMEs greatly. Most of us have worked with or for hidden champions in the past. Today, we love the hidden champion as an interested and pleasant Blinkin customer. After the awards we've won in recent weeks and months at SaaStock, Sweden Innovation Days, the Entrepreneur World Cup, or a double-page spread in Handelsblatt, we can't deny a bit of a shooting star feeling. More importantly, interested companies and investors have been knocking on our doors in large numbers at these events. At Blinkin, however, we're primarily motivated by creating real, measurable added value for our clients and their clients, from faster processing times to CO2 savings.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

The startup Blinkin, based in the Munich area and Bangalore, has developed an augmented reality tool that allows technical solutions to be displayed in the smartphone's camera image.
