In the initial phase of a startup, many founders still wear rose-colored glasses. Disillusionment sometimes sets in quickly, as soon as it becomes apparent that the co-founders actually want to go in a completely different direction. The non-profit startup AlignaTeam wants to use an app to ensure that potential founding teams can communicate in advance about whether they are a good fit\u2014or whether there is a need for further discussion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/em>: Who are you and what do you do? Please briefly introduce yourself and your app!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aligna Team<\/em>Hi! We're Linus Kohl (33, computer scientist) and Robin Betz (32, TUM business graduate) from AlignaTeam, and we want to help startup teams figure out whether they're pulling together. We've both experienced the enormous implications of disagreements in founding teams. Harvard Business School found that 65 percent of all high-potential startups fail due to conflict within the team. Although everyone is aware of this, critical issues are often avoided during the initial, euphoric founding phase. Robin had already created a questionnaire that everyone could use to jointly assess whether they would make a good team. For example, when they'd like to found a company, or whether they'd rather become a unicorn or an SME. I thought mapping the process in a free web application would be extremely interesting, and so it was born. Aligna Team<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/em>: But that's been around for a long time!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aligna Team<\/em>: Many coaches offer individualized consulting, and some startup programs have developed paper questionnaires that they work through with their teams. On the one hand, we differentiate ourselves through ease of use and our specialization in founding teams. On the other hand, we want to use follow-up surveys to gather important insights into whether and how conflicts were overcome, and then pass these on directly to our users as valuable tips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/strong><\/em>: What has been your biggest challenge so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aligna Team<\/em>: Transforming the team evaluation process into an easy-to-use concept was a complex task, and therefore the results should initially be viewed as a rough indicator. For the teams, dialogue about relevant topics after using the application is crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was also initially more difficult to gain support for the technical infrastructure than one would expect from a profit-oriented startup. However, much was ultimately achieved through the network<\/a> be compensated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/strong><\/em>: Let\u2019s get down to business: How is business going?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aligna Team<\/em>: It's important for us to reach teams at exactly the right stage of their founding. They're often in a startup program at that point. Therefore, these teams are our most important multipliers. The problem is usually well-known here. This opens doors internationally and provides valuable feedback. We welcome anyone who helps us spread our message. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will AlignaTeam be the first non-profit unicorn?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/strong><\/em>: What does Munich mean to you?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aligna Team<\/em>Linus is a native of Munich and loves the city, its lifestyle, and its opportunities. Robin studied in Munich and has practically settled here. He particularly appreciates the Eisbach waves and the active startup scene. We both believe that the city offers entrepreneurs an excellent infrastructure in every respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/strong><\/em>: How does your startup become the next unicorn? Or will we see you soon at Epic Fail Night?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aligna Team<\/em>: We'll be the first non-profit unicorn, of course. Otherwise, our goal is to make Epic Fail Nights obsolete, at least in terms of discord within the founding team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Linus<\/em>: The northern part of the English Garden is like a short holiday in summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
