Munich Airport and the Senseable City Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have decided to cooperate on the further development of the LabCampus innovation center at Munich Airport.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In March of this year, Munich Airport announced to create a cross-company and cross-sector innovation center on the airport grounds with the future project LabCampus<\/a>The renowned Senseable City Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has also been on board since November 1st to help shape the concept and development of the new innovation campus.<\/p>\n

The MIT Senseable City Lab, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, will support the Munich-based company as a research partner for an initial period of three years in developing the campus into an innovative smart city. The goal is to provide people and companies with an ideal urban environment for the efficient, creative, and, above all, collaborative development of promising product and service ideas, as well as for on-site testing.<\/p>\n

Important milestone for LabCampus innovation location<\/h3>\n

From the outset, LabCampus GmbH, in collaboration with MIT, has therefore focused on an infrastructure of tomorrow: aspects such as the implementation of state-of-the-art technologies in the fields of energy, mobility and urban planning are just as important as their networking with each other, so that an optimum of sustainability and quality of life is achieved for users.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis cooperation is an important milestone for our innovation location,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

explained Dr. Marc Wagener<\/strong>, Managing Director of LabCampus GmbH. He continues:<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether with MIT researchers, we are examining and evaluating the biggest trends and digital technologies that can benefit us in the development and successful implementation of a smart city.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Also Prof. Carlo Ratti<\/strong>, Director MIT Senseable City Lab, is pleased about the future collaboration:<\/p>\n

"It's a great opportunity for us to be involved in the creation of a smart city at such an early stage. This allows us to anticipate all needs and future developments in the infrastructure right from the start."<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

International and national cooperation partners<\/h3>\n

The MIT Senseable City Lab is the first global player outside of Europe to sign a cooperation agreement with LabCampus GmbH. Research institutions such as the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Hasso Plattner Institute have also confirmed their commitment as innovation partners, as has the Fraunhofer Institute. The latter is also considering leasing space at LabCampus. Closer discussions are also underway with other international corporations.<\/p>\n
