The winners of the first phase of the Munich Business Plan Competition (MBPW) by BayStartUP have been announced: The 10 winning teams focus primarily on innovations in the fields of high-tech, life sciences, and communications technology. They will each receive prize money of 500 euros. Application phase for Phase 2<\/a> runs until March 20, 2018.
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

The extensive written feedback on their business plans alone made the participation of all startups in the first phase of the MBPW worthwhile. The expert jury, consisting of investors, companies, and experts in the startup scene, took the time to review all submitted business plans\u2014regardless of whether the startup in question was among the winners or not. With the help of this feedback, the founding teams can further optimize their business plans to successfully bring their idea to market.<\/p>\n

With a total of 144 pitch decks and business plans submitted, the MBPW achieved a record result in this first phase of the 2018 season \u2013 the field of participants is stronger than it has been in ten years.<\/p>\n

The winners of Phase 1 of the MBPW<\/h3>\n

The display technology of APICBEAM<\/strong><\/a> creates virtual images and videos that float freely in space for use in digital communication. Unlike conventional technologies, the image information is encoded in a thin line of light using optical dispersion. Images and videos appear to float in space like a hologram, are visible from all sides, and remain facing all viewers at all times.<\/p>\n

ChargeX<\/strong> is developing a novel charging infrastructure for the private and semi-public electromobility sector. The core idea is load management that significantly reduces the cost per charging point and the installation effort for its operators. The modular concept enables operators of fleet parking lots and underground garages, for example, to expand their charging infrastructure cost-efficiently and in line with demand. They can add additional charging points as needed and intelligently control charging processes.<\/p>\n

Cliniserve<\/strong><\/a> helps hospitals optimally deploy their existing staff with patient care using control software. Patients interact with the software via their own mobile phone, and the software automatically delegates patient requests and tasks to staff. Cliniserve saves hospitals costs and increases patient and staff satisfaction. The system was developed with the LMU Clinic and is already in use at several hospitals.<\/p>\n

The patent-pending cooling system concept from Cryodynamics<\/strong> allows customers from research and industry to easily and fully automatically generate extremely low temperatures close to absolute zero. Due to its sustainability and scalability, the cooling solution used is a key component for the deployment of quantum technologies on an industrial scale.<\/p>\n

KEWAZO<\/strong> <\/a>is developing an intelligent robot system that enables flexible, cost-effective, and safe transport of scaffolding components during scaffolding assembly. Unlike existing solutions, the robot system requires only two workers for assembly and can transport components both vertically and horizontally. The solution enables customers to save at least 331 tp1452t in labor costs and cover more projects per year. Furthermore, the solution increases assembly speed by 421 tp1452t and provides increased safety, flexibility, and data analysis.<\/p>\n

Kumovis<\/a><\/strong> develops 3D printers specifically tailored to medical technology requirements. The focus is on processing the high-performance polymer PEEK, which is already established in medical technology and approved for the production of implants. The integration of a unique airflow system including filter units enables a clean room environment within the build chamber.<\/p>\n

PAVE<\/strong> is a software-as-a-service tool for defect management, construction documentation, and document management. The software solution helps architects, construction managers, project controllers, and facility managers collaboratively implement and manage their construction projects and buildings. Users save an average of 60% to 70% in time. Construction costs can be reduced by up to 7%. PAVE is built on the latest technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and cloud infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Prelovee<\/a> is a metasearch engine for secondhand fashion with more than 1.5 million products from 500 brands. Prelovee aggregates the products of around 100 online secondhand shops on one website. The Prelovee search agent also carries out searches upon customer request.<\/p>\n

With the sensor system SoilSpy<\/strong> Agricultural companies can analyze environmental parameters and specific nutrient concentrations directly on their agricultural land and initiate appropriate actions to maximize yields while minimizing fertilizer quantities and costs. The sensor chip is integrated into a mobile measuring device and enables user-friendly and cost-effective soil analysis directly in the field. Based on the measurements, agricultural companies can reduce fertilizer quantities and costs, maximize crop yields, and drastically reduce the significant groundwater pollution caused by over-fertilization.<\/p>\n

VOLABO is developing the first 48 V high-performance drive, the "Intelligent Stator Cage Drive" (ISCAD). This drive can be manufactured without rare earth elements, enables greater range, and is inherently safe. Instead of the complex copper windings previously used in electric motors, the motor's stator consists of aluminum bars. Through individual control, a virtual transmission can be created\u2014for the first time in electromobility. This enables enormous energy savings compared to conventional electric drives.<\/p>\n

Phase 2: Apply by March 20, 2018<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Startups can submit their concepts for the second phase of the MBPW until March 20, 2018. In addition to participants from the first phase of the competition, newcomers are also welcome \u2013 they have the same opportunities as everyone else.<\/p>\n

Five winners will receive a total of \u20ac9,000 in prize money. In addition, each participant will receive feedback from the jury of entrepreneurs and investors.<\/p>\n

The focus of phase two is market analysis, marketing, and sales. The rough business plan for submission should be approximately 20 pages long.<\/p>\n
