Electrochaea GmbH, one of the leading cleantech companies in the power-to-gas market, is one of the honored locations of the "Germany \u2013 Land of Ideas" initiative, a joint location initiative of the German federal government and German business, represented by the Federation of German Industries (BDI). The jury honored Electrochaea under the annual motto "Think Openly \u2013 So that New Things Can Emerge" for a novel biological process that uses microorganisms to store electricity from wind and solar energy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key technology for energy transition<\/h3>\n

Around 1,000 companies, startups, research institutions, and associations applied for the award this year. The awards ceremony took place on June 26 in Berlin.<\/p>\n

The Electrochaea<\/a> developed CO2<\/sub>The neutral process of biological methanation is an important key technology for a successful energy transition. Electrochaea utilizes the metabolic properties of microorganisms, so-called archaea, to produce storable biomethane from excess wind and solar power.<\/p>\n

Electrochaea's patented process helps stabilize the power grid during periods of high wind and sunshine. The diverse, location- and time-independent applications for "green" biomethane also make it possible to integrate the electricity, heat, and transportation sectors.<\/p>\n

Power line expansion becomes unnecessary<\/h3>\n

Further advantages: Since biomethane can be transported and stored via the existing natural gas grid infrastructure, additional nationwide power line expansion is unnecessary. The widespread availability of this "green" gas can also reduce dependence on gas imports and the environmentally harmful effects of developing natural gas deposits.<\/p>\n
