Oliver Porwol, Project Manager:<\/em> Mpiriq is building an AI-powered infrastructure that connects daily healthcare with medical research. Every day, enormous amounts of knowledge are generated in medical practices and hospitals, but this knowledge often remains fragmented across different systems and documents, making it difficult to utilize. We structure medical information, automate documentation, and create standardized datasets that can be used responsibly and in compliance with regulations for research. This transforms healthcare into a continuous cycle of knowledge acquisition, accelerating research and innovation without placing an additional burden on daily practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> But that's been around for a long time!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oliver Porwol:<\/em> There are data platforms, registries, and study networks. The difference lies in the implementation: Mpiriq makes data pools and patient populations accessible that were previously difficult or extremely complicated to reach, without any additional effort in everyday practice. We achieve this by combining AI-supported structuring with secure data encryption and transparent, clearly regulated data exchange. The result is not just another standalone solution, but an infrastructure that connects healthcare and research, thus creating the scientific foundation for better medicine of tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supply gap as a driving force<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> What is your founding story?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oliver Porwol:<\/em> Mpiriq arose from a clear gap in healthcare provision: While clinical trials usually take place in large hospitals, the majority of patients are treated on an outpatient basis. However, valuable research data often remains inaccessible in these settings. Markus Haug and Florian Schr\u00f6der recognized early on that scientific progress frequently falters due to fragmented information in practice management systems. After two years of preliminary work, they founded Mpiriq in the spring of 2024 to bridge this gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Infrastructure<\/a> Mpiriq integrates seamlessly with the practice management software in the background, without disrupting operations. It identifies suitable studies via registries and uses AI to perform pre-screening based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Instead of time-consuming manual searches, physicians receive structured lists of suggestions and patient insights. This allows them to fully concentrate on medical treatment and patient consultations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the team combines crucial expertise: medicine, data science, and platform scaling. Markus Schuler contributes the scientific perspective, Florian Schr\u00f6der the technological implementation, and Markus Haug the development and scaling. Tangible everyday benefits and the highest level of data security are paramount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> What have been your biggest challenges so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oliver Porwol:<\/em> The biggest challenge is trust. Technical feasibility alone is not enough when dealing with health data. Clear processes, compliance, transparency, and a handling that remains traceable and verifiable are essential. That's precisely why integrity, clarity, and collaboration are central to us \u2013 not for marketing reasons, but as a product requirement we set for ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second challenge is the reality and applicability\/feasibility in healthcare: heterogeneous systems, unstructured findings, high time pressure, and an already heavy documentation burden. Our solution must fit into this environment without creating new complexity. We measure our success by whether the benefits are truly noticeable in everyday practice: less time spent searching for data and documenting, more time for patients, and simultaneously better conditions for research and studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Establish long-term infrastructure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oliver Porwol:<\/em> Within a year, we aim to have significantly more practices and clinics productively connected and demonstrate that our approach measurably reduces workload. Simultaneously, we intend to have actively implemented a wide range of research and pharmaceutical projects where patient selection and data utilization function faster, more precisely, and in compliance with regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In five years, we aim to have created an indispensable AI-supported infrastructure that continuously connects healthcare and research. Our vision is to develop an ecosystem in which structured data from everyday clinical practice accelerates therapies and improves treatment outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oliver Porwol:<\/em> Munich is an ideal location for us because health, tech, and talent converge here in a small area. This is a major advantage, especially from a talent perspective: the proximity to TUM<\/a> and the Munich research environment gives us access to cutting-edge knowledge and to young, highly motivated people who not only want to understand technology, but really want to apply it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For us, this combination is crucial: high quality standards, a strong focus on the future, and at the same time an environment that enables deep technology and responsible innovation. This perfectly aligns with our ambition to build and scale sustainably in the regulated healthcare sector for the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> Hidden champion or shooting star?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oliver Porwol:<\/em> A hidden champion in implementation, because infrastructure ideally remains invisible. It runs in the background, making processes more reliable, faster, and simpler. That is precisely our aim: not to disrupt services, but to noticeably relieve the burden on existing systems while simultaneously enabling research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
