Munich Startup:<\/em> What does Pulsetrain do? What problem does it solve?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niclas Lehnert, COO:<\/em> Pulsetrain develops the next generation of intelligent Battery management systems<\/a> for electric vehicles. Our technology makes it possible for the first time to individually control, measure, and optimize each battery cell. Using artificial intelligence, we analyze cell behavior in real time. \u2013<\/a> and ensure that every battery operates at its optimal operating condition. This extends service life by up to 80 percent, increases safety, and simultaneously reduces overall costs. In short: We solve the inefficiency and resource waste of today's battery systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> But that's been around for a long time!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niclas Lehnert:<\/em> Many people talk about intelligent battery management \u2013 we make it possible at the cell level. Our technology replaces the rigid series connection with a dynamically configurable system. This opens up new possibilities: for example, a software architecture that detects weak cells and specifically relieves their load or bypasses them \u2013 all without the need for balancers or oversizing. Something like this has never existed in practice before, especially not with our level of integration and data depth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike conventional systems, we don't just collect data\u2014we also evaluate it and apply the insights directly in live operation. Our AI-supported control system adapts the behavior of the entire battery pack in real time. This means that insights are immediately fed back into the system, continuously improving performance, service life, and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From research to startup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> What is your founding story?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niclas Lehnert:<\/em> We are an interdisciplinary team from electrical engineering, computer science, and business \u2013 with the shared goal of making electromobility more efficient and sustainable. The idea originally emerged in the research environment surrounding modular multilevel converters. When we realized how many problems could be solved with this architecture \u2013 from charging time to thermal runaway \u2013<\/a> It was clear: This had to get out of the lab and into application. Research became Startup<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> What have been your biggest challenges so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niclas Lehnert:<\/em> The biggest challenge is balancing ambitious technology with industrial reality. We're building a system that simultaneously replaces hardware, rethinks software, and sets new standards \u2013 this requires partners willing to boldly join in. And, of course, capital, perseverance, and a team that believes in the vision, even in the face of setbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> Where would you like to be in one year, where in five years?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niclas Lehnert:<\/em> In one year, we will have an industrial pre-production prototype with our first partners in the construction machinery and motorcycle sectors \u2013 in the testing phase for a subsequent series production project. In five years, our technology in these areas should be industrialized with significant series production and have also become established in the automotive industry. And: We want to have proven that sustainability and cost-effectiveness are not mutually exclusive, but rather mutually reinforce each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> How have you experienced Munich as a startup location so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niclas Lehnert:<\/em> Munich offers a strong ecosystem \u2013 with excellent universities, dedicated networks, and close proximity to industry partners. At the same time, competition for talent and funding is fierce. But that's precisely what motivates us to become even better. For a technology-driven deeptech company like ours, Munich is definitely the right place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Invisible but effective<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em><\/strong> Hidden champion or shooting star?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Niclas Lehnert:<\/em> At our core, we're a hidden champion because our technology operates deep within the system\u2014where it's not immediately visible, but where it transforms everything. We're replacing key components of power electronics, making batteries smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable\u2014and we're doing this at the cellular level. Our contribution remains invisible to the user in the product, but the impact is enormous: longer service life, greater range, lower costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, we see ourselves as a rising star \u2013 the time is ripe for a rethink in electromobility. The industry is at a turning point: If we truly want to bring e-mobility to the mass market, we need radically new approaches. And that's exactly what we're doing \u2013 with a system of hardware, software, and data intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We're deliberately communicating this to the outside world because we want to demonstrate that it's possible: powerful, sustainable, and affordable electric vehicles \u2013 not someday, but now.
