Munich Startup:<\/em> When we last spoke, you were planning to launch your solution this year. You did so in April, albeit with a slightly different product than originally planned. What exactly happened?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg<\/em>: When we last spoke,<\/a> we were still focusing on a complete solution with robots. However, we have since managed to product<\/a> to adapt it so that we can mount the sensors on already active robots. With its round sensor housing, our product is now truly a round peg.<\/p>\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> What new challenges did you face with the market launch?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg:<\/em> A new challenge now, of course, is to always be able to deliver. This includes, for example, maintaining efficient parts management. And we also need to be able to predict when orders will arrive to some extent. This is all "normal business" now, so to speak: Production companies send us inquiries and want quotes, delivery notes, and ultimately, invoices. The robot has to arrive at the time it is ordered. This all perhaps has less to do with the clich\u00e9d image of a startup that we sometimes still have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A revolutionary solution that requires explanation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A much greater challenge, however, was verbally explaining to customers what our product can do. Especially at trade fairs, we often encounter people who initially don't understand it when you tell them that the robot stops on its own before hitting them. Especially those who have little or no experience with robots assume that's just how it is. If you then explain to them that the robot would have simply hit them without our product, they don't believe it at first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For customers with extensive robot experience, however, it's completely different. They like to stay several meters away from the robot while talking to us. We then present our solution to them, and as we talk, the conversation shifts more and more to the robot. For these customers, it's actually a surprise when the robot drives toward them and then stops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it's essential for us that all of this is understood correctly. After all, it's not just about preventing collisions. In doing so, we're also changing and improving the way people work with robots. And anyone who already has a certain idea of what this collaboration with a robot is like from their own experience sometimes simply has to experience that things can be done differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis has to get into people\u2019s heads now!\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/em>: How does your further growth look now?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg<\/em>: As I said, many people are still used to the robot standing behind a fence doing its thing. As soon as the cordoned-off work area is entered, the robot stops working. I either stand next to the robot, or the robot moves when I leave the cage. People have to get the idea that both are possible. But we now have the opportunity to present one or two customer use cases, for example with Airbus. If customers see that there are solutions and that you can actually stand next to the robot and it reacts to you \u2013 then it takes on a certain momentum of its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup:<\/em> How is your solution being received in the factories and assembly halls? How do the people who will ultimately have to work with the robots view the whole thing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg<\/em>: The feedback we're currently receiving shows us that this is a huge boost for the acceptance of robots. It may seem like a small contribution, but it's having an incredibly powerful impact on people's perceptions in production facilities. This shift is shifting away from the dumb robot that might replace them. Instead, they're seen more as friends who respect them and with whom they can work together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/em>: And how are you doing financially? Are you looking for growth capital?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg<\/em>: We're now in the fortunate position of having revenue, and that's helping a lot on the financial front. As for growth capital, we want to raise a round soon. We've discovered that we're truly solving a customer problem. Our solution is currently the only one that can be retrofitted to a robot and truly prevents collisions. Worldwide. Therefore, it's a good opportunity to bring a strong partner on board and get off to a great start. We've even already made a few commitments\u2014so things are looking pretty good at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg aims to revolutionize the interaction between humans and robots<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/em>: What do you plan to do in the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg<\/em>: Our vision is to revolutionize the interaction between humans and robots in absolutely every respect. There's still a lot of focus on production robots because manufacturing companies are still the main users of robots. But everyone in the industry is hoping for the private sector. And if we can solve the problem of robots being able to truly perceive their surroundings clearly on their own, then that will be a major catalyst for robots in our everyday lives. The goal \u2013 or the dream \u2013 is still for robots to do the annoying things around the house and around us. And our vision is to make a significant contribution to this by redesigning the interaction between robots and humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/em>: What lessons have you learned as a team so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg<\/em>: No matter how well you know each other \u2013 we both knew each other long before we founded the company \u2013 if you have a Startup<\/a> When you build a company, you get to know each other in a completely different way. But what's perhaps more important for other founders: When it comes to potential future team members, we look very closely to see whether they truly share our vision. And we also have to see how they can contribute to it. And you're surprised at how powerful even a small team can be these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founding a startup is like a 1,000-piece puzzle<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Munich Startup<\/em>: What do you think makes a good startup ecosystem?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roundpeg<\/em>: It's really valuable to exchange ideas with others. When founding a startup, there are so many issues that need to be addressed, and a good ecosystem provides input from all sides about what you need to pay attention to. You could perhaps compare it to a 1,000-piece puzzle: you're given all the pieces, and the end result is supposed to be a company. But you have no idea how to put them all together, and the ecosystem then provides the lid, so to speak, showing you what it should look like. It's not a precise guide, of course, but you get a lot of input, all of which takes you a little bit further. The good programs have understood this\u2014but we believe we should push it even more in Munich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
