Health technology \u2013 trends, challenges and opportunities: <\/strong>Almost 20 years ago, in 2005, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a resolution calling on member states to consider so-called "e-health" strategies and infrastructure for modern healthcare in order to reap the benefits of "equitable, cost-effective, and widespread access." Since then, many initiatives have been launched, but the most striking change is the distinction between the pre- and post-COVID-19 pandemic periods. On the one hand, the COVID-19 pandemic has further widened the gap in access to healthcare between high- and low-income countries, due to disruptions in (pharmaceutical) supply chains or a lack of access to comprehensive hygiene and protective measures. On the other hand, the lockdowns have highlighted the advantages of digital care alternatives and technologies and accelerated their adoption<\/a>.
