Entry last updated on March 16, 2026

ProviGenAI is developing a software platform for automated experiments and data-driven process optimization. While many laboratories and biotechnology development environments already employ extensive automation, the planning, evaluation, and adjustment of experiments are still performed manually.

Our platform combines automated laboratory workflows with AI-based optimization. It translates experimental protocols into executable workflows, orchestrates experiments on existing automation systems, and analyzes the resulting data to continuously improve parameters.

This creates closed learning loops between experimentation, analysis, and decision-making. Teams can optimize biotechnological processes, such as fermentation, screening, or bioprocess development, significantly faster and more efficiently.

Business model

Founder ProviGenAI was founded by Magdalena Lang (CEO) and Lucas Mair (CTO). Both combine experience in biotechnology, medicine, and automation systems.

Lucas previously worked in lab automation at Calculus House in San Francisco, where he developed automated experimentation platforms. Prior to that, he spent several years working on distributed control systems, including in drone swarm orchestration, as well as applications in stem cell and neuroengineering workflows.

Magdalena brings experience from biomedical research and BioAI environments. During her research at Harvard Medical School and in the MedTech/VC sector, she worked on genome editing and sequencing projects and experienced firsthand how slow and fragmented experimental workflows limit the speed of biological research.

This shared experience gave rise to the idea for ProviGenAI: an AI infrastructure platform for automated experiments and bioprocess optimization that combines existing laboratory automation with data-driven optimization and enables continuous learning cycles between experiments.
