On July 6, 2021, HM, SCE, M:UniverCity, TUM, UnternehmerTUM, Munich Urban Colab, and the Bürgermut Foundation are jointly hosting one of Germany's most exciting barcamps – the openTransfer CAMP "New Green Munich – How do we shape the livable city of tomorrow today?" We would be delighted to have you as a participant. Feel free to bring other interested people from your network along, because we want to achieve great things together.
New Green Munich – a Barcamp on the future of the city
Climate protection, energy transition, new mobility, inclusion, diversity, and participation – if we want to continue living in livable cities, we must now accelerate a trend reversal toward sustainability. The city of Munich aims to demonstrate how this can be achieved through a joint effort in the coming years. At the digital Barcamp, participants will develop ideas on how this can be achieved and how the project can become a blueprint for many other cities.
Cities are currently the main cause of climate change and, at the same time, laboratories for ideas on solutions. The EU Commission has therefore set an ambitious goal: With a new social contract, the "New Green Deal," Europe aims to become the first climate-neutral continent. It is an action plan for a sustainable society oriented towards the common good. Munich aims to be a pioneer in implementing the plan.
The city declared a climate emergency back in 2019. The ambitious goal: climate neutrality by 2035. We can only achieve this together – that is, if science, civil society, business, politics, administration, the cultural and creative scene, and innovative founders from the city and region work toward the common goal. Equally important are impulses from the rest of the country and beyond. After all, there are already good solutions to many challenges that we can develop further together. The openTransfer CAMP offers a space to bring together ideas and the minds behind them. Munich's Deputy Mayor, Katrin Habenschaden, has assumed patronage of the Barcamp.
