The municipal "Fund for Innovative Cultural Interim Uses" has a total volume of €160,000 per year and is in effect until further notice. The funding framework covers interim use projects with an innovative character and a duration of between three months and three years in the Munich metropolitan area. "Innovative" refers either to the content of the artistic or cultural or cultural and creative economy concept, to the use of the space, or to the impact on the site. A combination of the three dimensions is also possible. In addition, the interim use project must be regularly accessible to the public.
Both actors from the arts and culture sector without commercial activity and actors from the cultural and creative industries are eligible to apply.
Interim uses even more attractive thanks to new fund
Clemens Baumgärtner from Munich Referat für Arbeit und Wirtschaft says:
"The cultural and creative industries are an important sector for Munich. Groundbreaking impulses and trends for other economic sectors emerge here. I am delighted that, with the newly launched fund, we can make temporary use in Munich even more attractive, thus expanding the supply of affordable spaces in Munich for the cultural and creative industries and opening up experimental spaces."
Anton Biebl added by the Munich Cultural Department:
"The fund supports temporary uses throughout the city. With this low-threshold and transparent approach, we enable many actors in the arts and culture sector to realize their projects and thus support diversity in Munich's arts and culture scene."
Grants can be applied for in four categories, either individually or in combination. These categories include assessing the usability of properties, structural improvements to rooms (e.g., for electricity and water installations), communication measures such as setting up a website, and the use of the rooms themselves for the purpose of covering ongoing operating and ancillary costs.
The grants are generally awarded for a maximum period of six months and are either partial or fixed-amount grants. The funding requirements are reviewed by the Competence team for cultural and creative industriesThe selection of projects to be funded is the responsibility of a committee composed of representatives from the Department of Culture and the Competence Team for the Cultural and Creative Industries of the City of Munich.
