Munich Business Plan Competition: Energyminer wins final

The winning team of this year's Munich Business Plan Competition has been announced: Energyminer impressed the jury in the final. The startup relies on green electricity from hydropower, which is generated without impacting the river ecosystem. Sedivention took second place, followed by Baind in third place.

Energyminer aims to revolutionize hydropower. The startup's patent-pending technology generates electricity using micro-hydropower plants in rivers – without negatively impacting the flow of water or the habitat of animals and plants. Interview with Munich Startup explains the founding team:

"Our hydroelectric power plants preserve the rivers in their natural state, or rather, our systems enable their renaturation, while simultaneously generating hydropower. Fish are 100 percent protected and can pass through the systems undisturbed. The systems float in the river. You can simply imagine them as a small wind turbine with a protective frame in the water. The installation is carried out entirely without concrete or dam walls."

Energyminer: Increase visibility for investors

On winning the Munich Business Plan Competition, Richard Eckl, Managing Director of Energyminer:

"By participating in the competition, we want to increase our startup's visibility to investors and promote our Series A round. The feedback from the experienced jury is very helpful in our continued development. We ourselves have been active in the startup scene for over 10 years, and Baystartup is one of the most important institutions for founders in Bavaria."

Second place goes to the medtech startup SediventionThe team aims to treat obesity and facilitate weight loss with a new type of catheter that cauterizes nerve fibers in the stomach in an outpatient and non-invasive manner. And the jury awarded third place to BaindThe company is developing a greentech solution for commercial real estate, enabling energy and CO2 savings through AI-based control of heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, and shading.

Fabian Brunner, Head of the Munich Business Plan Competition at Baystartup, was satisfied with the jury’s decisions:

"Environmentally friendly and innovative energy generation through hydropower, artificial intelligence in building management, and a technology that significantly simplifies life for the morbidly obese: With their pioneering advanced technologies, the winning startups have the potential to soon have a major impact on our economy. The five other nominees from the fields of sensor technology, 3D printing, energy trading, PropTech, and environmental reporting also have very good market prospects with their strong concepts."

The following startups were also nominated in the final:

  • Additive Electronics electrifies 3D printing and offers 3D printers, development software and inks for additively manufactured 3D freeform electronics for electronic components, enabling novel component designs and functionalities.
  • The Single value streamlines the property valuation process and delivers appraisals of the highest quality.
  • With its "Flavor Engineering Technology," Harmonize successfully combines biotechnology and artificial intelligence to make food flavor measurable and digitally controllable for the first time. This allows manufacturers to precisely design the flavor of food.
  • Otter Energy Trading enables companies to profitably market their self-generated solar power through various channels using smart software.
  • The Telusio team enables the automated quantification of product carbon footprints. The software relies on a smart linking of existing data from core systems (e.g., ERP systems) with supplier data and CO2 databases.
