The coronavirus pandemic has shown, not least, how important digitalization is for companies. It is a key success factor for their economic future. Nevertheless, small retailers in particular still rate their knowledge of digitalization as less advanced than larger retailers. According to a IHK-ibi trade study By 2020, digital measures were often not implemented due to a lack of time resources, legal uncertainty and high investment costs.
“We go online”
Lockdown phases during the coronavirus pandemic caused particularly low-digitization companies to stumble. Switching to digital offerings such as an online shop in a short time was simply not feasible for many retailers. The Referat für Arbeit und Wirtschaft, together with the ReDI School of Digital Integration and the UnternehmerTUM, laid the foundation for this. Funding program “We go online” The funding program was designed to help businesses develop online solutions so they could continue to generate revenue even during the crisis. From 100 applications, 25 project teams were formed, and 21 new online solutions were implemented, including online shops, user-optimized websites and payment systems, and online social media presences. 300 experts from marketing, communications, retail, IT, digitalization, and law responded to a call and supported the initiative with their expertise.
Suitable digital solutions
A new digitalization funding program aims to build on the experiences of "We're going online." Through the new program, participating companies from the retail, hospitality, and service sectors will receive advice on suitable digital solutions. Following this, initial steps in practical implementation will be supported to remove any potential hurdles in digitalization.
