Ebenbuild sweeps the EIT Health Catapults

Ebenbuild wins the European EIT Health Catapults competition in the Digital Health category. The Munich-based company creates personalized lung simulation models.

EIT Health is honoring Ebenbuild for its digital twins of lungs. These can predict airflow, applied forces, and tissue expansion within the organ. This helps physicians predict the effects of ventilation on individual patients, thus improving the quality of treatment decisions.

With its technology, the Startup Improve treatment outcomes for mechanical ventilation in intensive care patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). ARDS is a severe and often fatal pulmonary complication that usually occurs as a result of other diseases. Worldwide, more than 3 million people are affected each year, and around 40 percent of those affected die from lung failure. Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the numbers have continued to rise.

EIT Health: 40,000 euros for Ebenbuild

Ebenbuild was selected by a jury as the winner of the competition in the Digital Health category and will receive €40,000 in prize money. In addition to the Munich-based startup, the Spanish company Leukomedtech and the English company Solascure won in the Medtech category, as did the Biotech category.

The competition is organized by EIT Health, an initiative of the EU project European Institute of Innovation & Technology. EIT Health is currently working with around 150 partners from 14 countries in a public-private partnership. The goal is to develop solutions to major challenges in healthcare together with startups, established companies, public institutes, research institutions, and universities.
