New SME fund aims to keep founders in Germany

From SMEs for SMEs: This is the mission statement of the Ökovation Ventures Fund, which was recently launched in Germany. The goal is to promote startup innovations and retain up-and-coming young companies in Germany.

With a total volume of ten million euros, initial investments of up to 750,000 euros per startup are possible. the fund In subsequent rounds, the company will participate in the supported companies up to a total investment of five million euros. Ökovation also aims to create an opportunity for medium-sized companies to invest in sustainable and future-oriented businesses. Investments are possible starting with a minimum investment of just €250,000. There are no fixed terms, which is intended to ensure flexibility for all parties.

Gerold Wolfarth, Managing Director of Ökovation Ventures Fund, explains:

“These start-ups often generate completely new ideas that can permanently solve social or environmental problems – if they are successful.”

For newly founded companies to take off, they need not only sufficient financing but also expertise in all areas of the business. This is where the Ökovation Ventures Fund comes in: experienced entrepreneurs and founders provide startups with their expertise as mentors. In addition to Wolfarth, who is known for his mentoring program Invest2grow, among other things, investor and The Grow initiator Bernhard Schindler is also involved in Ökovation. The fund is also connected to platforms such as Salsup, Scalup, and Servup, which offer various services to the supported startups.

Ökovation wants to keep startups in Germany

The fund is already supporting four companies, including the Munich-based company OttobahnThe startup aims to revolutionize transportation with a rail-based cable car. Last November, it closed a seven-figure financing round led by Ökovation. The other startups also place great importance on sustainability, according to the fund. With this funding, Ökovation was also able to realize another of its goals: keeping the companies in Germany, as Wolfarth explains:

“Two of the first four startups we invested in with Ökovation would have gone to the US without this funding.”
