The Respond program consists of four sprint phases. The founders receive training in-person in Munich or online. They also receive numerous coaching sessions and workshops on business model development, leadership development, as well as marketing and sales. Participants receive mentoring opportunities and benefit from the networks of the BMW Foundation and UnternehmerTUM. At the end of the program, the startups can present themselves to an international group of investors, industry representatives, and media representatives.
Transforming the economy through regenerative approaches
The transition to a regenerative economy encompasses the entire chain of economic activities, from the extraction and use of resources to the production and consumption of goods and services. Regenerative business models are becoming increasingly important for an economy that takes planetary boundaries into account. Therefore, when selecting startups this year, Respond is focusing on solutions that prioritize the responsible and equitable use of resources, the promotion of sustainable production and consumption patterns, and approaches to ecosystem regeneration. Bennet Barth, Managing Director Respond, BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt, says:
"Humanity is consuming far more resources than our planet can provide. To counteract this exploitation of the planet, we need rapidly scalable solutions based on regenerative and holistic approaches. We see startups with their technological innovations as part of the solution and therefore want to support founders this year who are helping to transform the economy through regenerative approaches."
For example, early warning systems for changes in environmental conditions, solutions to cope with rising temperatures or sea levels, or approaches to regenerative agriculture are conceivable. Moritz Förster, Director Operations at Respond, UnternehmerTUM, adds:
"We are proud of everything we have achieved with the participants of the last programs. To meet the diverse challenges we face globally, we need the innovative spirit, the energy, and especially the courage of founders to break new ground and deviate from traditional ways of doing business. We are convinced that the innovations of startups will also contribute to achieving climate goals and implementing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals."
