“QuantenTech Vision Bavaria” presented

Bavaria sees itself as an excellent starting point for quantum research and aims to translate this into industrial value creation. To achieve this, Bayern Innovativ has developed a roadmap for the "QuantumTech Vision Bavaria" on behalf of several state ministries.

The roadmap for the "QuantumTech Vision Bavaria" outlines a possible development for the next five to ten years. It highlights medium- and long-term development stages and maps the technological and industrial application potential of quantum technologies for the Bavarian business and research landscape.

Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger emphasized when presenting the roadmap:

"Quantum technologies open up enormous application potential for the Bavarian economy across all sectors. Numerous startups and companies from the Free State are already successfully researching and developing quantum technologies and are among the global leaders. The roadmap for the 'QuantumTech Vision Bavaria' contributes to transferring the valuable know-how from Bavarian research into economic value creation."

Some of the startups active in quantum technology have also participated in the creation of the roadmap, such as the Finnish-German start-up IQM or KiutraThe Munich-based startup has developed a novel, magnet-based cooling system for quantum computers. A total of over 80 renowned representatives from cutting-edge research, companies, and startups participated in the roadmap. The focus was on the areas of quantum computing/simulation, software, communication, and sensor technology.

Bavaria's Digital Minister Judith Gerlach explained:

"The roadmap underscores our Bavarian claim to leadership in quantum technologies. Only here do we combine the expertise surrounding future digital technologies, from science and teaching to application in business. We also leveraged this in the creation of our QuantumTech vision. High-caliber working groups have developed strategies to establish a thriving quantum tech industry in Bavaria: For example, securing our sensitive data from decryption by quantum computers is a key future issue."

“The plan is in place”

To implement the "QuantumTech Vision Bavaria," the authors recommend initiating (research-oriented) flagship projects as well as projects in all areas of quantum technologies. Of particular interest here are projects that can establish application-oriented quantum technology solutions with high economic potential within a reasonable period of time. For the efficient commercialization of quantum technologies and the associated know-how, building expertise through already feasible application-oriented projects is also essential. This also helps to demonstrate their benefits to the public.

Bavaria's Minister of Science Bernd Sibler says:

"Quantum technologies are among the key success factors for our science and economy of tomorrow. Excellent research and training in the field of quantum science and technology are already taking place in our Free State. As part of the High-Tech Agenda Plus, we are investing a total of 300 million euros in this future-oriented field, of which around 150 million euros are allocated to the Ministry of Science alone."

And Minister Aiwanger adds:

"Our goal is for future technologies and applications to originate from Bavaria. As the Ministry of Economic Affairs, we are therefore supporting the Bavarian quantum initiative Munich Quantum Valley with 150 million euros from the Hightech Agenda Plus."

Minister Gerlach concludes:

"The plan is in place, and now we can fully launch the transfer of quantum knowledge from basic research to companies. This will take Bavaria to the next level."
