Holiday home search engine Holidu takes over Spain-Holiday

Munich-based travel tech company Holidu has acquired the vacation rental platform Spain-Holiday and merged it with its subsidiary Bookiply. The merger aims to improve visibility for vacation rental providers and service for travelers.

Spain-Holiday was founded in Málaga in 2002 and is one of the leading online portals for vacation rentals. The Málaga office will continue to operate, and the vast majority of the Spain-Holiday team will be retained. Holidu will continue to operate the portal and use its technology platform. The purchase price has been agreed to remain confidential. Johannes Siebers, CEO of Holidu, says:

"After our initial discussions with the Spain-Holiday founders, it quickly became clear that we share the same mission: to finally make searching for and booking vacation rentals easy. The vacation rental market is still not fully transparent and lags behind other markets technologically. With the acquisition of Spain-Holiday, we are writing a new chapter for both companies by expanding our innovative technologies and a service unique in the vacation rental market across Europe. We warmly welcome our new colleagues to the Spain-Holiday team and look forward to working together on our mission."

Jannich Friis Petersen, CEO of Spain-Holiday, says:

"Both Spain-Holiday and Holidu are committed to supporting holiday home owners in a professional yet simple way. The new partnership will help holiday home owners gain significantly more visibility. Thanks to Holidu's technology, holidaymakers benefit from improved service, such as direct booking options and flexible payment models."

Holidu was able to accelerate its growth during the Corona crisis

Claus Sørensen, founder of Spain-Holiday, explains that extensive knowledge of the market and close relationships with landlords were key factors for success:

"At Spain-Holiday, we have focused on private holiday home rentals from the very beginning and sought personal interaction with landlords. This approach has made Spain-Holiday one of the leading rental portals in the Spanish market. With the acquisition, both landlords and guests have access to an even more powerful portal that boasts top-notch technology and customer service."

Despite the pandemic, Holidu has continued its growth trajectory this year. In 2021, up to August, the Munich By August, it had increased its growth by 2.6 times compared to 2019. The search engine has been operating profitably since May 2020.
