The Munich-based tacterion GmbH was founded in 2015 as a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). tacterion develops and markets the unique tactile sensor technology plyon©.

The patented sensor modules measure physical interaction and pressure on virtually any surface. In developing this completely polymer-based sensor technology with unique properties, such as enormous robustness and deformability, tacterion draws on years of research and expertise in materials science. Originally developed for robotics, plyon© enables more intuitive operating concepts for products and machines. The goal is to make the user experience as natural as possible through customized haptic interaction. It also enables the unlocking of untapped efficiency potential in Industry 4.0 applications.

tacterion offers customers from various industries complete solutions comprising hardware and software as well as data management and offers services to support product development.

The spin-off project was supported by the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). tacterion has won several awards, including the 2015 Top 3 IoT Startup Award from Bitkom and the 2016 Pioneers500 Award for Best Startup in the Materials & Manufacturing sector.
