Gropyus acquires construction startup Corrux

Corrux aims to optimize the use of heavy equipment such as construction machinery and cranes with its analytics platform. The Munich-based startup has now been acquired by the Vienna-based proptech startup Gropyus.

Corrux enables construction managers, operations managers, and development managers in open-pit mines to track the utilization of excavators and other equipment on-site in real time. Equipment manufacturers can also improve their service offerings with Corrux thanks to greater transparency. A typical use case for the software is machine management, which is still mostly done with pen and paper. At the beginning of 2019, the Munich-based a financing round of around 2.6 million euros (3.1 million dollars).

Now the Munich startup has been Gropyus The Viennese startup plans, builds, and rents out multi-family homes, mostly made of wood. It focuses on sustainability and also incorporates smart home solutions. Gropyus is backed by investor Florian Fritsch as Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Delivery Hero co-founder Markus Fuhrmann as CEO, and former Zalando CTO Philipp Erler as CTO. The goal of the acquisition is to eliminate data silos on construction sites in order to technologically strengthen sustainable and resource-efficient construction. The founders of Corrux intend to remain on board for the time being.

More transparency on the construction site

As part of the acquisition, Corrux will now be embedded in Gropyus' digital value chain. The companies aim to jointly ensure greater transparency on construction sites. The Munich-based company will connect the fragmented handover points of a construction site. The platform will then show whether machines are available and whether materials will be delivered on time. The goal is an optimal process that ensures short construction times and keeps emissions as low as possible.

"The challenges and opportunities facing the construction industry are massive: We must meet the growing demand for housing and infrastructure amidst a shortage of skilled workers and new complexity. Three years ago, we began advocating for more efficient and waste-free construction and are incredibly proud to be achieving this goal even faster as part of Gropyus. Our industry will only achieve resource-efficient construction through technology-supported collaboration throughout the entire construction process."

is glad Laura Tönnies, founder and CEO of Corrux.

Philipp Erler, co-founder and CTO of Gropyus says about the future collaboration:

“The Corrux team’s many years of experience in the field of digital construction will bring us closer to our goal of creating sustainable, affordable, and smart living space.”

Andreas Witt, CTO of Corrux, is also very excited about the shared future and says:

"Technology-enabled market transformations are based on ecosystems and platforms that share information and thus reveal inefficiencies. Strategically, Corrux and Gropyus are an excellent fit, as both companies are eliminating inefficiencies in our industry through increased automation and data analysis. We are pleased with this success."
