According to a survey by Bitkom Research The mood among startups in Germany has worsened. A few months before the federal election, only 39 percent say the general situation for startups has improved in the past two years. A similar number (35 percent) see the situation unchanged, and one in five (20 percent) complains of a deterioration.
Startups give the current legislative period an average rating of only "sufficient" (4.2). Not a single startup gives it a "very good" rating, and only 3 percent see startup policy as "good." However, more than one in four (28 percent) complain about "inadequate" policies, and 12 percent even rate it as "unsatisfactory." This is the result of a survey of more than 200 tech startups commissioned by the digital association Bitkom.
Even more political support is needed
"Startups are so crucial for Germany's digital footprint that they should be given even greater political support and encouragement. Especially during the pandemic, we've also seen that startups with their solutions, for example, in areas like education and healthcare, still have an extremely difficult time getting traction in Germany,"
says Bitkom-President Achim Berg.
Founders are somewhat more optimistic about the situation of their own company. 41 percent say the situation has improved, compared to 40 percent last year. However, 18 percent complain of a deterioration, compared to only 12 percent in 2020. 37 percent see no change at all, compared to 40 percent in 2020.
