“The Spark” enters its sixth round

This year's digital award "The Spark" focuses on the theme of "Net Zero Tech." The competition is seeking technology concepts for a zero-emissions future. The application deadline is July 11.

This year's focus theme at "The Spark" is "Net Zero Tech": The awards recognize startups committed to the mission of climate neutrality and developing technologies for a zero-emission future. Digital technologies for energy generation, storage, and transport are just as relevant as new methods for avoiding or capturing CO2 in the manufacturing industry or emission-reducing innovations in the transportation and building sectors.

“Finally, the global target of net-zero emissions from 2050 set by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change affects all sectors and industries,”

says Sebastian Matthes, Handelsblatt Editor-in-Chief.

Germany and Europe need courageous startups

"Emission reduction is inevitable. The transition to net-zero emissions will have profound effects on almost all aspects of the economy. And it will only succeed with a transformational approach and the promotion of innovation and young entrepreneurs. Germany and Europe need bold startups that develop technologies for a zero-emission future, thereby contributing to the environment while strengthening our competitiveness."

Application deadline is July 11

The competition is being organized jointly by Handelsblatt and McKinsey & Company for the sixth time. Last year, several Munich residents Take home prizes. Startups from Germany, Austria and Switzerland can apply until 11 JulyAll applicant teams go through a multi-stage selection process before the top ten applicants present themselves to the jury in live pitches.

Female Founder Award will be presented again this year

In addition, the "Female Founder Award" will once again honor inspiring female founders who demonstrate digital leadership through personal commitment and entrepreneurial success. Nominations are made by Handelsblatt, McKinsey, and the previous year's finalists. All winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on November 11, 2021.
