Telefónica Deutschland is providing a standalone 5G campus network for the Wayra program. Markus Rolle, CFO of Telefónica Deutschland, says:
"With the new 5G Tech Lab, we are ensuring that, together with our innovation hub Wayra, we are at the forefront of developing new 5G applications and business models. This investment is paying off: Together, we are bringing new 5G applications from the lab into everyday life for our customers."
5G Tech Lab aims to “actively shape the digital future”
Florian Bogenschütz, CEO of Wayra Germany and Head of the Tech Lab, adds:
"With the 5G Tech Lab, we are creating a space in Munich from which we will actively shape the digital future. We enable startups and founders to explore the possibilities of 5G technology and develop new applications with real added value for consumers and industry. Currently, there is no comparable infrastructure for startups in Germany that is as easily accessible and technically sophisticated."
The program would allow 5G applications to be tested live and transferred into commercial use in everyday life, said Bogenschütz.
The startups in the program include the Munich-based company Eyecandylab with its platform for interactive streaming content. This platform is designed to enhance the streaming experience using augmented reality. Additional animated product and entertainment content will be displayed alongside the video. The Munich-based company aims to enable new revenue models through measurable and transactional TV advertising and new AR entertainment subscription services.
The Tech Lab is open to all startups that want to develop or test applications based on the 5G infrastructure. Interested parties can contact Wayra Germany apply for a place in the lab.
