Apps4Muc is looking for ideas for smart city apps

Under the name Apps4MUC, the City of Munich is seeking innovative ideas that will guide the state capital on its path to becoming a sustainable, digital 'Smart City'. The competition deadline is October 5, 2020.

For the second time, the Bavarian capital is seeking applications and open data applications with Apps4MUC that support the city administration and society. This time, the open call focuses on the topics of 'Neoquartier' and 'Neodata'.

The ideas for 'Neoquartier' are intended to improve the quality of life within individual neighborhoods. A good example of this is Whysk, whose map-based app Citywise supports the local cycling community and engages more people in the community. The 2019 Apps4MUC winning team makes it possible to see at a glance not only user-recommended bike routes, but also parking spaces, tube dispensers, and bicycle pumps. Another winner was the Wolfratshausen-based company Entust, which aims to support interpersonal exchange in the region with its platform.

Big Data? Neodata?

A new topic at Apps4MUC is Neodata, where the city is looking for creative ideas to use the existing Data from the Open Data Portal The state capital or the geodata portal are trying to get more out of it through innovative processing. Also exciting are ideas surrounding new services that generate open data that can be used meaningfully by the city administration and society. Another example of this is the Citywise app. The data entered by users flows into the geodata portal and serves as a database for other platforms.
