Media Lab Bayern offers scholarships again

The Media Lab Bayern supports startups in the field of digital journalism with a new edition of the "Founders Fellowship." The program offers monthly financial support, business coaching, and mentoring from experts in the media industry.

Until January 17, 2016 Founder teams can apply with their digital media projects for the Founders Fellowship Program of Media Lab Bayern.

A jury, including Richard Gutjahr and Jens Pippig from the ProSiebenSat.1 Accelerator, will then select three to four teams for the scholarship. Students will receive €600 each, and graduates €1,200 per month. The fellowship can be extended once for a further three months.

In addition to financial support, the Media Lab offers participants regular business coaching to develop their business plan, plus additional coaching in marketing, social media, and UX/UI design. Scholarship recipients receive their own office space and can use the training and development channel's facilities, such as a TV studio, editing room, and radio studio, for multimedia productions.

Lina Timm, head of Media Lab Bayern, summarizes the funding provided within the scholarship:

"In addition to the financial grant, we offer our participants intensive exchange with mentors during the founding phase and the development of their idea. In the first batch, for example, the startups were coached by journalist and internet pioneer Richard Gutjahr, Hansi Voigt of watson.ch, Malachy Browne of Reported.ly, and Thomas Mickeleit, Director of Communications at Microsoft."

The first round of the Founders Fellowship program started in August 2015. The scholarship recipients were the four startups CamperStyle, The context, Soundticker and tangnt news.
