Farminsect is an AgTec startup. With Farminsect, we want to revolutionize agriculture by giving farmers the opportunity to produce their own protein feed for their livestock. Protein feeds include soy and fishmeal. Both must be imported into the EU at 90%. Both feeds cause massive ecological problems, such as deforestation and overfishing.
With Farminsect, we offer farmers a solution for producing insect larvae from regional waste materials, such as crop residues. The insect larvae can then be fed to their livestock as protein feed. This allows farmers to save over 50,000 tons of CO2 emissions from feed production and simultaneously reduce their costs by up to 20,000 tons.
Farminsect offers farmers a machine concept that enables automated insect production. Farminsect also supplies farmers with young larvae weekly. This approach minimizes the barriers to entry for farmers.
FarmInsect is an AgTec Startup. With FarmInsect we want to revolutionize agriculture by enabling farmers to produce Insects as regional protein feed. Protein feeds, eg soy or fish meal, are imported into the EU for livestock farming. These imports create massive ecological problems such as deforestation of rainforests and overfishing of the oceans. Due to growing demand while hitting the land and ocean capacities, the prices in the last 10 years have increased by 200 – 400 %. For most farms the cost for feed account for up to 60 % of running costs. Therefore, many farmers are threatened in their existence by the rising prices. Farminsect enables farmers to produce regional protein feed for their livestock out of organic residues. Farminsect provides a machine and IoT system that enables the automated production of insects. Additionally, we continuously supply the farmer with young larvae for fattening. The adult insect larvae can then be fed to the livestock as protein feed. Thereby farmers can reduce up to 20 % of their costs and save over 50 % of the CO2 emissions from feed production. We have developed a modular rearing system which can be integrated into the existing infrastructure of a typical livestock farm. On top of that we have developed an IoT System to monitor and regulate the whole process. We have developed a shipping solution with which we can send young larvae to the farmer every week. This makes the insect rearing much easier for the farmer and the business model much more attractive for us.
