“Best New Radiology Vendor” — with this title, Smart Reporting The Munich-based digital health company has created a pioneering data standard for clinical diagnostics with its integration of image analysis and intelligent medical documentation on a cloud-based platform—a view shared by the radiology industry.
The "Minnies Awards for Excellence in Radiology" are presented annually by AuntMinnie, one of the largest online professional communities for radiology and imaging procedures. Candidates are nominated in a total of eight categories and selected by a panel of experts. The award for "Best New Radiology Vendor" will be officially presented at this year's European Congress of Radiology in Vienna.
Wieland Sommer, founder and CEO of Smart Reporting, is delighted with the award:
“I am delighted by this special recognition of our company and excited to continue working on the medicine of the future together with our great team.”
Large discrepancy between the vision of data-based medicine and reality
He continues:
"As a radiologist, I am very familiar with the daily challenges facing the healthcare system. And although there has been discussion for several years about how AI and big data can improve the medical environment, I see a huge discrepancy between the vision of data-driven medicine and the reality, where unstructured reports and free-text dictation are part of everyday life in almost all medical disciplines. Therefore, I have set myself the goal of improving clinical workflows through intelligent medical documentation. This supports radiologists in structuring their workflows more efficiently and enables the analysis of the collected data."
The multilingual smart reporting software for structured reporting in radiology and pathology is now deployed in over 90 countries and is used by more than 8,000 physicians. The Munich-based startup is currently working on expanding the software to include additional indications.
Making data volumes from clinical routine usable
At the same time, the company is increasingly focusing on AI-supported image analysis. In collaboration with strategic partners, Smart Reporting aims to harness the growing volumes of data from routine clinical practice. Thanks to learning algorithms, this data will enable increasingly precise diagnoses in the future and holds great potential for various research applications.
