Flixmobility transported 62 million people last year. The Munich-based company recorded an increase of 37 percent over the previous year.
Despite its impressive growth, Flixmobility was unable to quite maintain its 2018 growth rate. Two years ago, the company increased its passenger numbers by 40 percent. The parent company of Flixbus, Flixtrain, and Flixcar transported 62 million people to their destinations by bus, car, and train last year. Founded in 2013, the company now serves 2,500 destinations in 30 countries. According to the company's CEO, Flixbus is the world's largest bus travel provider. André Schwämmlein.
The success story began in 2013 with the liberalization of the German bus market. The company merged with its Berlin-based competitor Meinfernbus in 2015 and subsequently acquired competitors in Germany and abroad, such as Postbus, the European business of the British provider Megabus, the bus network of the Austrian ÖBB and last year Kamil Koc in Turkey. In 2018, the Munich-based company also entered the US market.
Flixmobility secured the most capital in Europe in 2019
The company launched a train service in Germany in 2017 with Flixtrain. Since then, the umbrella organization has operated under the name Flixmobility. Flixtrain plans to launch trains in Sweden in the first half of 2020. At the end of last year, Flixmobility also launched a ride-sharing app, Flixcar, initially only in France. The ride-sharing service may soon be rolled out in Germany and other countries.
The steep growth trajectory has also been recognized by the investor community. Last year, Flixmobility closed a Series F financing round with $564 million, securing the company the Europe's largest startup investment in 2019 and the fourth largest financing round in the world.
