Google builds headquarters in Munich's Postpalast

The American internet giant Google is purchasing Munich's Postpalast at Hackerbrücke. 1,500 new jobs are to be created in the listed circular building.

Google is currently working on its Location in Arnulfpark around 1,000 employees and is reaching its capacity limits. As a company spokesperson dpa announced, Munich is already the largest Google location in Germany.

The appearance of the Postpalast remains unchanged

Not far from its rented office, Google has now purchased the Postpalast at Hackerbrücke. The circular building with a dome has a diameter of 52 meters and 58 doors. Built in 1926, it is an important example of modernist architecture. Post Office Construction School in Munich and is a listed building. 1,500 Google employees will join the Munich team in the 41,000 square meter office space. This team will work primarily on the Chrome internet browser, data protection, and internal systems. This thematic focus will continue. The Google spokesperson told dpa:

“We are pleased that we have such an innovative environment in Munich.”

The company from Mountain View, California, is therefore looking for further investment opportunities in the Bavarian capital beyond the purchase.

The company hasn't commented on the purchase price, but market sources say it's in the low three-digit million range. The image of the historic buildings will remain unchanged, the spokesperson said.
