Caremondo closes seven-figure financing round with Holtzbrinck Ventures

The Munich-based startup Caremondo, which launched an international platform for medical tourism at the beginning of the year, receives seven-figure investment capital from Holtzbrinck Ventures and business angels who have already invested in the seed round.

Lars Langusch, General Partner at Holtzbrinck Ventures: "Caremondo operates in a rapidly growing, multi-billion-dollar global market, which is currently very opaque. This makes it all the more exciting to build a marketplace that connects patients and clinics."

Foundation laid for international growth

With the seven-figure investment, the company aims to continue growing and open up new markets.Having built up a comprehensive clinic portfolio in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, our goal is now to expand our clinic offering internationally and address additional global patient flows. We currently have more than 50 top-class clinics in our portfolio. These include, for example, the Berlin Charité, one of the world's most renowned university hospitals“ says co-founder and managing director Andreas Otto. “We are very pleased to be working with Caremondo,” explains Falk Erzgräber, who, as head of Charité International Healthcare, coordinates the treatment of international patients at the Charité.

Caremondo was founded in late 2014 by Veronika Leitermann and Andreas Otto (see picture above). Veronika Leitermann, previously a Director at Simon-Kucher & Partners, and Andreas Otto, former BCG consultant and co-founder of Rocket Internet's The Iconic, describe their vision:

"The global medical tourism market is booming – more and more people are searching online and worldwide for the best treatment for them. On Caremondo, we offer patients the opportunity to find top clinics worldwide and schedule an appointment for aesthetic or medical procedures."

Patients from more than 25 countries

Caremondo also offers services such as travel and visa organization and the translation of medical documents. All partner clinics meet high quality standards and hold nationally and internationally recognized quality certificates. The clinics themselves benefit from the partnership with Caremondo: through Caremondo's online marketing activities, they are now discoverable in 25 countries, increasing their visibility and, consequently, their treatment numbers. Caremondo is based in Munich and currently employs 15 people. Further expansion of the team in the areas of marketing, sales, and business development is planned.
