INNOspace Masters: New competition open for submissions

The space industry is undergoing a period of transformation. Increasing digitalization, complex and interconnected production processes, and new global players with their business ideas and commercialization trends are posing major challenges for established manufacturers of space equipment, especially satellite technology.

The developments of the New Space Economy also have the potential to revolutionise technologies and processes for value chains as well as subsystems and components. For this reason, the INNOspace Masters, a new competition to promote innovative ideas for the next generation of space travel, launched by the Space Administration of the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

What topics does the competition address?

INNOspace Masters is looking for pioneering ideas, research projects, demonstrators and prototypes as well as innovative, yet already operational business concepts in the following areas: additive manufacturing, increased modularization of production, flexible platform concepts, intelligent parts and components, cyber-physical systems for complex production and logistics processes as well as innovations along the entire value chain of satellite manufacturing.

Win prizes from top-notch partners

In the competition, prizes will be awarded in three categories, reflecting varying levels of maturity and innovation, by renowned partners – the Space Administration of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Airbus Defence and Space, and the two German ESA Business Incubation Centres in Bavaria and Darmstadt. In addition to comprehensive marketing and communication measures and networking opportunities, the winners will receive technological and business support from first-class partners.

From September 16, 2015, to January 31, 2016, interested companies, startups, universities and non-university research institutions as well as consortia and individuals can submit their innovative ideas and solutions for the next generation of space travel to the first INNOspace Masters competition.
