Hunter & Co. builds the app for all hunters

Digitalization deep into the forest? — With the app from Hunter & Co., this is no longer just a promise, but a reality. The app aims to support hunters in planning their hunts. Find out exactly how it does this in our 7 questions.

1. Who are you and what do you do?

Markus Ortmann.

We are the Munich startup Hunter & Co. and have built the Hunting Companion app. The Hunting Companion is a digital companion for hunters. Our app supports planning before the hunt, is present in the hunting area during approach and kill, ensures personal and collaborative organization of the hunting area after the hunt, and enables communication with hunting friends!

I'm Markus Ortmann, 37, and I studied business informatics here at the Technical University of Munich. Lorenz Frey-Hilti is my co-founder. Lorenz is 28, a Zurich native, studied business administration, and is the experienced hunter on the team.

Lorenz and I met through a mutual acquaintance, and hunting was an immediate common interest. Now, we have a lot more in common, but that's another story.

2. But that has been around for a long time!

True, but not like that! We're certainly not the first hunting app on the market. However, we are the first hunting app that supports hunters throughout their entire hunting process and strives to be very simple and streamlined. We don't want to overload the app with features, but rather support hunters' real-life processes with clever services. As with any app development, we had to and still have to establish the basics first. From there, we can continue to develop further, based on user feedback, and achieve our vision.

Hunting language = real challenge

3. What has been your biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge (at least for some of the team) was learning the hunting language.

4. Let’s get down to business: How is business going?

It's working! No, just kidding. We've actually achieved our goals much faster than expected, and the engagement and loyalty of our users continues to be overwhelming. To give you a statistic: We've been on the market for 20 weeks and we now have almost 30,000 installs.

5. What does Munich mean to you?

Adopted home, great love and the Isar.

6. How will your startup become the next unicorn? Or will we see you soon at Epic Fail Night?

Even though we as a team are always happy to sacrifice ourselves for good stories, we hope to skip Epic Fail Night.

7. Finally: hiking or beer garden?

Grilling!
