Salaries for IT professionals continue to rise, up 3.5 percent year-on-year. Cybersecurity experts are particularly well-paid. According to a recent study, Munich is the best-paid city.
According to a study by the trade magazine Computerwoche in collaboration with Compensation Partner, salaries in the IT industry are at a record high. With an average salary of €75,577, the IT security sector leads the rankings.
Earnings correlate strongly with education: While a PhD holder IT specialist A graduate earns an average of €79,073, a university degree brings in €76,462, and a university of applied sciences degree €70,735. Master's graduates earn an average of €65,640, and those with a bachelor's degree earn €55,208. Those who have completed traditional vocational training earn an average of €50,024.
However, the difference between master's and diploma degrees is likely also due to the age and professional experience of the graduates. For entry-level professionals with less than three years of experience, the median salary is €44,567; after 10 years in the profession, they earn an average of €67,949.
“Munich is very well positioned in the IT sector”
Munich is the most attractive location for IT experts: here they earn over 20 percent more than the national average. Tim Böger, Managing Director of Compensation Partner, says:
"Munich is very well positioned in the IT sector. One reason for this is its close ties to high-revenue industries such as the automotive industry and insurance."
Compensation Partner, a Hamburg-based company specializing in compensation data, examined the level and structure of salaries for a total of 29 positions. Thirty-seven companies participated in the study.
