The Munich-based tech startup Metismotion has raised more than one million euros in fresh capital in its first round of financing. Investors include the High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), the Born2grow Seedfonds—a subsidiary of the Zukunftsfonds Heilbronn (ZFHN)—and the Siemens Technology Accelerator (STA). Metismotion's core technology is highly dynamic, lightweight, and powerful Actuators — i.e., special motors, for example, for robotic grippers. The proceeds from the first investment round will be used to finance the company's development until the first series products are launched on the market.
The three-person founding team of Metismotion has developed a lightweight and responsive actuator that promises to offer previously unknown technical possibilities.
"We have achieved a reaction time that is 30 times faster than a standard airbag. Even the fastest electromagnetic solutions are undercut by a factor of 10. This was previously considered unimaginable,"
explained Patrick Fröse, one of the three managing directors of Metismotion. At the same time, the actuators are extremely space-saving and lightweight. This makes them suitable for many technical applications where weight savings are important or where installation space is limited, according to the company.
Metismotion: Like a human muscle
Another special feature is the precise control of the actuators.
"We like to compare our technology to human muscles. Our actuators enable quick and easy movement, as well as powerful and slow movement of a large weight,"
Fröse continues. Furthermore, the sensor capabilities of the actuator system could enable smart features that are particularly advantageous for applications in Industry 4.0. Conventional electric motors and hydraulic systems, according to the founders, do not currently offer these possibilities.
Jens Baumgärtner, Investment Manager of the High-Tech Gründerfonds, says:
"Metismotion's innovative technology immediately won us over. Thanks to the innovative actuators, innovative technical solutions that were previously unimaginable are now possible in high-growth industries. The collaboration with the founding team also works smoothly."
