Competition seeks ideas for healthcare

The 2018 Eugen Münch Prize seeks ideas for improving healthcare. Applications are open until July 1.

In 2018, the Münch Foundation will once again present the Eugen Münch Prize for Innovative Healthcare. The prize is awarded in two categories, each endowed with €20,000. It recognizes work that has the potential to improve healthcare and make the system more efficient. The focus is on the creative use of new technologies and the exploitation of opportunities arising from digitalization and robotics. In addition to the cash prize, the winners receive access to the Münch Foundation's network.

“There is no shortage of impressive ideas and creative, bright minds to improve local healthcare; however, there is often a lack of ability to overcome the rigid system with sometimes outdated regulations and excessive vested interests,”

says Stephan Holzinger, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board.

“With this award, we want to increase the pressure on the system to innovate and help fresh approaches get a chance to be used in everyday healthcare.”

Top-class jury selects winner

The jury includes FAZ editor Sebastian Balzter, Stefan Felder, board member of the German Society for Health Economics, Jochen Gensichen, director of the Institute for General Medicine at LMU Munich, Achim Jockwig, chairman of the board of the Nuremberg Hospital, Tobias Johann, managing partner at Rheingau Founders, Peter Langkafel, managing director of Healthcubator, Mani Rafii, board member of Barmer, and Uwe Schwenk, director of the Bertelsmann Foundation.

The application deadline is July 1, 2018. The winners will be announced on November 21 in Munich.
