Flixbus is getting serious and is launching its first lines in the USA. The service will initially be limited to the southwest of the country.
The Munich-based startup Flixbus continues to expand at a breathtaking pace: Only half a year after the announcement The first green buses roll through the United States.
The offer is initially limited to Southern California, eight destinations in neighboring Arizona, as well as Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada. Tickets can be booked starting in late May. A five-hour trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas costs between €2.50 and €8.50. Tickets to Phoenix, Arizona's capital city, 600 kilometers away, are currently available for €12.50 to €16.50.
Challenge to top dog
Co-founder André Schwämmlein says it wants to be an "affordable and environmentally friendly" alternative for American passengers. Its market entry is intended as a challenge to the American market leader, Greyhound. While its buses have a firm place in pop culture, films, and music, they have a miserable image: The traditional buses are considered outdated and dirty.
The startup has long since proven that Flixbus can revolutionize entire markets. In just a few years, the Munich-based company has revolutionized the bus industry and become the market leader in Europe.
On its way to the top, the company swallowed up most of its competitors: First, the Munich-based company merged with its Berlin-based competitor MeinFernBus in 2015. Subsequently, Flixbus took over the European business of Megabus, the provider Postbus and that Austrian ÖBB bus network. Recently launched Flixbus under the brand Flixtrain first train connections between Stuttgart and Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg and between Hamburg and Lörrach.
