New Zentrum Digitalisierung.Bayern opened

Aigner and Spaenle: “We are making Bavaria fit for the digital future”

Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs Ilse Aigner and Science Minister Dr. Ludwig Spaenle opened the Zentrum Digitalisierung.Bayern (ZD.B) in Garching today.

Aigner and Spaenle: "Bavaria has a clear goal: With our future strategy, BAYERN DIGITAL, we are securing a leading position in the digital age. The high innovative power of Bavarian companies and research institutions, well-trained employees, a strong industrial base, and excellent networking between business and science form the foundation for the digital revolution in our state. Technology should not dictate everyday life, but rather make everyday life easier through innovative ideas. This ranges from services provided by government agencies to more flexible working models and a better work-life balance. BAYERN DIGITAL reaches into all areas of society, and we are pleased to launch a crucial building block today: the Zentrum Digitalisierung.Bayern."

"Data is the fuel of the 21st century. We want to use this fuel for the Bavarian economy—for large corporations as well as for the many small and medium-sized enterprises. Our goal is technological leadership.„,

says Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs Ilse Aigner. The Bavarian State Government is investing 200 million euros in the ZD.B as a hub for digitalization throughout the Free State. Aigner:

"With the ZD.B, we are bundling digital expertise in Bavaria into initially six thematic platforms. We are investing in people, in bright minds. With the ZD.B, we are now taking digitalization a decisive step forward. Research provides impetus for business and society, ensuring the Free State's competitiveness."

An important component of BAYERN DIGITAL are the Bavarian universities and university research institutions. Science Minister Dr. Ludwig Spaenle emphasized:

"In addition to its important role for the economy, the ZD.B is a center for science and research. Its primary purpose is to promote collaboration at the interface between science and industry, especially with a view to business start-ups. To this end, we will integrate, pool, and strengthen the diverse competencies of universities in the field of digitalization within the ZD.B. To this end, Bavaria will create 20 new professorships at universities and universities of applied sciences, provide targeted support for young scientists, and provide students with the infrastructure to develop innovative ideas. Research in the future fields of digitalization will thus be expanded and strengthened."

The ZD.B has already started its work in the form of a task forceAn office in Garching will be established by the fall. In parallel, the content development of the six thematic platforms will be further advanced. The first projects on IT security, digital production and networked mobility have already been approved.
