GESS Finale 2017: Entrepreneurs from 30 nations fight hunger

The finals and the tenth anniversary of the Global Entrepreneurship Summer School (GESS) will take place in Munich on September 21, 2017. From 1,200 applications worldwide, 35 top students were selected to develop innovative and entrepreneurial business models on the topic of "food" within one week.

The world's population is constantly growing, and despite modern technologies, food supplies are still not guaranteed for everyone. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), almost 800 million people currently suffer from hunger. At the same time, the amount of food wasted worldwide is estimated at 1.3 billion tons—enough to feed three billion people.

GESS at home on three continents

This is where the Global Entrepreneurship Summer School comes in. For the tenth time, GESS is bringing together students from all over the world in interdisciplinary teams for a week to develop entrepreneurial solutions to societal challenges. Through its partnership with Tongji University in Shanghai and the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico City, the program is taking place for the second time on three different continents—Europe, Asia, and Latin America. This year's topic addresses the global "food" problem.

The students' innovative solutions will be presented at the GESS closing event on September 21, 2017. Among the approximately 250 guests will be presidents of Munich universities and representatives of partner universities, board members, renowned entrepreneurs from the local startup scene, and students. In a panel, experts will examine the international outlook for GESS and the importance of entrepreneurial action with social thinking. Admission is free, but registration is requested.
