Burda Principal Investments goes Singapore

Burda Principal Investments — previously represented in Munich, London, and New York — is expanding its international presence: With the opening of the Singapore office, the investment unit of Hubert Burda Media is consolidating its activities in Asia. The focus will be primarily on Southeast Asia.

"We are very pleased to strengthen our presence in Asia. We see great growth potential and want to further expand our portfolio here. We will leverage Burda's global network and our many years of experience in the technology and media sectors to support young companies in the region in their next growth step,"

says Martin Weiss, Managing Director of Burda Principal Investments.

The new location is under the management of Albert Shyy, who previously headed the Southeast Asia and India investment team at the Japanese fund Gree Ventures. The economist and systems engineer studied economics and was previously a director at the e-commerce company Lazada Group.

Focus is on technology companies

Burda Principal Investments will invest in technology companies from the region, with a focus on later-stage investments. Burda's previous investments in Southeast Asia include Coc Coc, the leading search engine in Vietnam, and Priceza, Thailand's most popular price comparison website, which currently operates in six countries. BPI has also invested in several funds from the region, such as Golden Gate Ventures, Jungle Ventures, and Kejora.
