Federal Ecodesign Prize seeks smart ideas for the future

The Federal Ecodesign Award is once again seeking bold design pioneers and inventors of sustainable products in 2017. Companies, design agencies, startups, and students are welcome to apply—with already created prototypes or market-ready products and services. The application deadline is April 10.

The Federal Ecodesign Prize is now being awarded for the 6th time and is divided into four categories: "Product", "Concept", "Service" and “Youngsters” An interdisciplinary jury will select the nominees and award winners in September. The shortlist is made by a panel of experts from the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) and the project advisory board. The evaluation is based on a criteria matrix developed jointly by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), the UBA, and the International Design Center Berlin (IDZ). The focus is on the entire life cycle of a product – from the idea through production to the question of how the product can be recycled or disposed of.

Deadline ends on April 10

The winners and nominees will be honored at the awards ceremony at the Federal Ministry for the Environment on November 27, 2017, and will be presented in a traveling exhibition at trade fairs and museums the following year. Students will receive €1,000 per award. The exhibition of the 2016 winners and nominees opens on March 20, 2017, in Ludwigsburg. Workshops and events will accompany the exhibition. Application deadline: April 10, 2017
