ParkHere: Munich startup makes finding parking easier in Ingolstadt

The Munich startup ParkHere Ingolstadt is the first city in Bavaria to offer real-time data on available municipal parking spaces. After the founding team, together with P+R Park & Ride Munich, initially tested the sensors at park-and-ride facilities in Munich, Ingolstadt is now implementing ParkHere sensor technology at municipal facilities.

Ingolstadt's mayor Lösel and his city councillors were able to visit the UnternehmerTUM and the high-tech workshop in February MakerSpace be convinced by the innovative sensor technology.

Less traffic noise and environmental pollution

ParkHere has developed a smart, self-powered sensor system for locating available parking spaces in real time. The ultra-thin ground sensors are embedded in parking areas or street entrances and exits and generate their own energy through energy harvesting. The energy is used to detect parking and to send the information to the ParkHere database via the mobile internet. This opens up new possibilities for cities to implement comprehensive parking management. The sensor system reduces traffic noise and environmental pollution, as the real-time information from the sensors can be used to navigate drivers to the nearest available parking space.

ParkHere is a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich and has been intensively supported by the UnternehmerTUM from the outset in developing its product and building its business. Two of the founders participated in the entrepreneurial qualification program Manage&More followed by the THINK.MAKE.START lab course and the business plan advanced seminar. Finally, the startup was admitted to the accelerator TechFounders recorded.

Just last week, the young Munich-based company was awarded first place in the Munich Business Plan Competition Phase 2.
