RE'FLEKT: Create AR applications without programming

Interview with Dirk Schart, Head of PR & Marketing at RE'FLEKT.

What is behind RE'FLEKT?

We are a technology startup based in Munich. Since our founding in 2012, we have been developing user-oriented augmented and virtual reality applications for mobile devices and smart glasses. Our experience developing industrial applications gave rise to the idea of creating a platform that enables companies to implement augmented reality (AR) themselves. With REFLEKT ONE, we offer a modular platform that allows the creation of augmented reality applications without programming.

How exactly does the platform work?

REFLEKT ONE can be integrated into existing IT infrastructure. For example, a technical documentation editor can create mobile instructions using augmented reality without leaving their usual work environment. The platform allows for the import of complete CAD data sets and linking them to numerous data formats (e.g., text, audio, video, 3D models, sensor data). The finished AR application can then be exported to a mobile app or web viewer.

For which target group is your solution interesting?

Our customers include industrial companies such as Alstom, Audi, BMW, Bosch, Hyperloop, Porsche, ThyssenKrupp, and media companies such as ProSiebenSat1 Media. The ease of use of REFLEKT ONE makes our platform appealing to a broad target audience: it is of interest to both corporations and medium-sized businesses. Employees can create applications themselves without having to write a single line of code, and the system can be expanded step by step as required. AR applications in industry can save considerable costs, for example, in employee machine training or production planning. In marketing, such virtual applications can illustrate configuration and planning in detail without complex physical examples.

What is augmented reality?

Augmented reality translates as "extended reality." It represents the extension of the real world by overlaying virtual elements. The user is provided with 3D computer simulations in real time and can interact with this virtual environment—while moving freely.
