The Bavarian Climate Protection Act establishes the Bavarian Climate Protection Award in Article 11. The Bavarian State Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection annually awards this prize to projects that are particularly concerned with Climate protection and adaptation to climate change have earned their merits. The State Agency for Energy and Climate Protection organizes the competition.
The Bavarian Climate Protection Award is open to both private individuals and legal entities, such as companies, municipalities, or associations. Eligibility requires a connection to Bavaria. This means that participants must either be headquartered in the Free State or be committed to climate protection in Bavaria. The initiative should already be running and demonstrate measurable results. It may already be completed, but it must continue to have an impact today.
An independent jury selects the winners of the Bavarian Climate Protection Award. A coherent overall concept is crucial. The selection criteria include the following:
- originality
- innovation
- Transferability to third parties
- sustainability
- continuity
- Transparency regarding project development, implementation and results
The Bavarian Climate Protection Prize is endowed with a total of €25,000, which can be divided among several projects. In addition, the award winners receive a sculpture and an image film about the winning project, which they can use for promotional purposes.
How to participate
Proposals for the Bavarian Climate Protection Award 2025 can be submitted until January 31, 2025. Following this proposal phase, the application phase will take place. If a proposal meets the participation criteria, the State Agency for Energy and Climate Protection will contact the nominated candidate and invite them to complete an online application form. The nominated candidate will only participate in the competition if they submit the application form in full and on time.
