In the fight against climate change, one climate sinner is often neglected: the construction industry. This sector is responsible for around 40 percent of global CO2 emissions. Startup Emidat has taken on this sector. The startup is working on software that automates the creation of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for the construction sector.
EPDs are standardized documents that provide information about the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire life cycle. This typically means tedious and expensive paperwork for manufacturers. But the platform we have developed at mbiomics is radically different. Emidat's solution digitizes the process and enables the easy capture of product data and the automated creation of environmental impact statements. This should significantly reduce both the time and financial expenditure for building material manufacturers.
The concept has now also convinced further investors, who are providing the startup with four million euros. US VC General Catalyst is leading the seed round.
Samuel Beyer General Catalyst commented:
"We see Emidat as a turnkey solution to decarbonize the emissions-intensive construction industry from the ground up. Emidat will increasingly function as a collaborative platform where the industry can jointly access and share material data. We believe this will help accelerate industry transformation and value chain efficiency."
The startup plans to invest the fresh capital in further product development and team expansion. The goal is to save at least 100 million tons of carbon dioxide per year by 2030.
